The Importance of Mutual Accountability/Are you Up for a Challenge?
I feel like we all need something fun to work on
It's been a minute since I've written, but I've suddenly felt a small bit of inspiration after a very bizarre couple of years. We've all had different experiences during the pandemic, and the ensuing craziness on every single front of life - but my main takeaway is the importance of getting support from other people (I believe this is true whether or not you're an introvert).
I think a lot has been made about remote work, people not needing to go to the office, becoming more self reliant, caring less about what other people think (etc, etc). I've gone in the opposite direction, and believe more than ever that to do anything great, it requires support of great friends, family, and even Internet acquaintances. For me personally:
I started a book club briefly and it was an awesome experience connecting with other folks/held me accountable to read.
Every Sunday I took part in a group trivia game (thanks to my friend Jessica), which was hugely beneficial for my mental health and gave me something to look forward to.
Peloton was the way I stayed in shape for a large portion of the pandemic - and it helped knowing - even though we weren't in the same room - that thousands of others were on a ride at the same time as me
And now that we're going back to the office a bit, I'm recognizing how much energy I get from other people, and how important it is to be with others to unlock creativity
Having others around me to push me to be the best version of myself has been the greatest discovery for me during the past couple of years (and I'm grateful to my friends and family for that).
So are you up for a challenge?
My latest undertaking - which is going to require a huge amount of mutual accountability - I'm going to take a course on Python. My goal by the end of it is to be able to use GPT-3, a really cool piece of technology by Open AI - to perform basic functions and train a language model to write blog posts. If you're interested in joining me, respond back and I'll start a Whatsapp Group. You won't regret spending an hour a day learning how to code. I even have a pretty cheap course picked out on Udemy to help us along the way - no pressure - but if you want to join it could be fun!
